In order to enhance students’ understanding of the motherland and to experience the development of modern business operations in China, UNIANC and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of Fudan University organized social visits for exchange students and led them to visit Shanghai companies.
On the afternoon of May 14, 2021, the students first went to Shanghai Xinsong Robotics in Pudong New Area, the international headquarters of Xinsong Robotics established in Shanghai.
Xinsong is a leading robotics company in China, with business in various fields such as intelligent robot manufacturing, intelligent development and innovation development. Xinsong’s collaborative robots have independent intellectual property rights, and the table tennis robots are integrated with artificial intelligence technology and can be used in major sports events. Xinsong robots have been exported to dozens of countries and regions around the world, making it one of the outstanding representatives of modern high-tech enterprises in China.
The students watched the physical display of the robot inside the Xinsong Robotics enterprise. From collaborative robots that consume less energy, weigh less, and are more efficient, to the robotic arm that can carve a map of the world into a raw egg in CCTV’s Super Project, all of them show the advanced technology of China’s robot manufacturing R&D.
At the end, the two students also had a few matches with “Pombert”, the same table tennis robot of the national team. The visiting students were very curious about the ping pong robot and asked questions about how it works against a real person. The new robot is equipped with an upgraded Hawk Eye system to collect and store data on player movements, from introductory games to national player training.
In the second stop, the students went to Shanghai Wanguo Sports Center. Founded in 2006, Wanguo Sports provides fencing, physical fitness and many other sports training for the public. With nearly fifty sports centers in many cities across China, it is a leader in the national fencing market. With a number of well-known coaches, Shanghai Wanguo Sports Center has trained countless youngsters with a passion for fencing.
The students knew very little about fencing before, so the staff introduced the business model of the sports training industry, especially fencing, including the operation of the venue and the history of fencing, which broadened the students’ knowledge of the sports industry. The students were also eager to try fencing when they saw the heroic fighting style of the students in the arena. After teaching the basic positions, the coach took the students one-on-one to experience the fun of fencing.
Both robotics and fencing are industries that today’s college students are rarely exposed to. This event is part of the “Shanghai-Hong Kong University Consortium” program in Spring 2021, which invites experienced practitioners and managers to explain the development of the industry, and gives students the opportunity to go into companies and experience the working pattern of various industries, broadening students’ career knowledge and deepening their understanding of China’s social development. </p
